Why Did Jesus Come to Earth?
The answer to the question of why Jesus came to Earth is simple and straightforward yet some people find it difficult to comprehend and believe. They would rather spend their time going through life with nothing real to hold on to rather than spend their life secured with Jesus.
So, why did Jesus come to Earth? It is because of sin and how it has been eating away at society. Men easily succumb to the temptation of sin and fall many times. Oftentimes, man decides to change and tries to turn away from sin; but doing so on his own proves to be futile as he falls back to his old routine time and again. It is because of man’s nature that he keeps on sinning.
God knew even from the beginning that His Son would become a man and redeem us from our sins. This is the ultimate mission of Jesus, taking our debts upon Himself, to be a sacrificial lamb so that we can be saved. Jesus died for us so that our sins, past, present and future will be forgiven.
During the Old Testament times when man wanted to be forgiven from his wrongdoings, an offering was to be made. Most of the time a lamb had to be given up so that he will be pardoned. And this should be done repeatedly or whenever a man sinned.
But when God allowed His Son, Jesus, to become one of us and die on the cross for us, this act was to be done once and for the last time – but the value of His sacrifice is for all eternity.
Jesus also came during a time wherein the Pharisees were laying down burdensome laws on the Jews. Aside from upholding the Law of Moses, they added hundreds of other laws that were beneficial only to them. Jews were oppressed and discouraged, not knowing what the truth was. Jesus also came to set the record straight.
Jesus is God’s personal gift to each one of us if only we accept Him and believe that He alone can save us from our sinful nature. When we accept Him and believe in Him, He will give us everlasting life.
