Why Did Jesus Have To Die on the Cross?
As Christians, we believe in our hearts and minds that we are saved by the power of Jesus' blood that was shed on the cross.
Some of the questions that plague people are: Why did Jesus have to die on the cross on the first place? Why did it have to be that way? Wasn't there any other way for us to be saved?
Jesus' death on the cross was prophesied way before He was even born here on Earth. Through different prophets, such as Isaiah, his birth and death were foretold countless times. It was just that the people during that time did not understand the meaning of the prophets' words.
Sadly, though, even when He was already here on Earth, in the midst of the people, healing, preaching and performing miracles, people still refused to believe and accept Him.
The question still lingers, why did Jesus have to die on the cross?
For the mind of a skeptic, Jesus' death on the cross was nothing more than a need to show off; to them, the cross was a stage where characters played a role. For others it was nothing more than a brave act done by a good man.
But for believers like me, Jesus' death on the cross was an ultimate display of God's love to mankind. Jesus' sacrificial death brought life to a dying world. It meant that we can now go to Him to ask forgiveness for our sins, repent and expect God to work through us and in us, to change us and mold us to the likeness of His son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus' death on the cross also showed us how powerful God the Father is because He raised Jesus from death three days later. Jesus' resurrection meant that He already conquered death and He has power over death. As it is written: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Because of Jesus' death on the cross we have eternal life and that is why He accepted God the Father's earthly mission for Him.
